CELEBRATE CHINESE NEW YEAR IN WOKING

The Woking Borough Council and the Chinese Association of Woking (CAW) are celebrating the Chinese New Year of the Monkey in Woking Town Centre on Saturday 13 February 2016. Chinese New Year, or the Spring Festival, marks the start of a new spring each year in the Chinese lunar calendar. The festival is celebrated by the Chinese people all over the world and typically lasts 15 days.

2016 sees the return of the fire monkey in the Chinese zodiac, signifying a flamboyant and charming year ahead. Come and join us in the celebrations in Woking town square and be part of the tradition!

The town centre's Mercia Walk, Commercial Way, Market Walk and Jubilee Square will be livened up by the colourful parades from 12:30 to 1pm. Liondancing kicks off the main show at 1pm and the show includes classic Chinese dances, martial art displays and more. Lions return to start the 2nd show at 2:15 and the show ends 3pm.

For more information on the programme xontact Mrs Michelle Wong at [email protected]

Mercia Walk will be transformed into traditional Chinese market stalls with art and craft accessories and the ever popular calligraphy stall will also be set up from 10am to 3:30 pm.
