Celebrate Woking - Be proud be part if it
Woking Borough Council

Schools

School

Schools and students in Woking will benefit from the exciting programme of cultural events and activities which are set to be delivered in the Borough in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Celebrate Woking, is a year-long cultural programme of events and activities, which will embrace the inspiration and excitement in the run up to The Games and provide unique opportunities for schools and students to get involved.

How your school and students can get involved

School

The Celebrate Woking programme aims to benefit and enhance all facets of the Borough’s community and there’s no time like the present to think of ways your school can get involved in the celebrations!

Not only will you be able to enjoy and participate in top-class events right on your doorstep, but there will also be many opportunities for your students to take part in interesting and diverse cultural activities and to promote your school.

Here are some top tips to help you prepare for the Borough’s biggest ever celebration.

  • Encourage your students to participate in events in and around Woking. Keep an eye on the calender of events for up-to-date information.
  • Encourage your students to get into the spirit of the Games and write on Woking's Legacy Wall.
  • Get involved in our Celebrate Woking bunting project, which will be used to decorate the Party in the Park event on 7 July 2012.
  • Create your own willow sculpture with local artist, Sara Holmes. The sculptures, to be inspired by Olympic cyclists, will form a number of street art displays along the Olympic Cycle Road Race route and will later go on to adorn the school’s green spaces.
  • Help to create a ‘snapshot’ of the Borough’s sporting and cultural activities by uploading photos of you and/or your family and friends to the Capture the Action website – the project uses photo mosaic software to create four giant photo images. Once complete, the giant images will be displayed at prominent points across the Borough.
  • Get inspired by The Get Set education programme, a London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games education network. You can use this network for inspiring ideas, resources and opportunities about how to make the most of London 2012 in your school or college.
  • The Gold Challenge is for everyone, everywhere in the UK. Anyone can do it, irrespective of ability or fitness. Take part on your own or in a team. Choose 5, 10 or 30 Olympic or Paralympic sports and fundraise for charity. Why not try a new sport, be part of the excitement around London 2012 and raise money for one of 120 charity partners and help those in need.
