The fun will be marching into Woking Park in July

23 April 2018

A parade of great entertainment will be marching into Woking Park on Saturday 7 July 2018 at Party in the Park. With exciting live entertainment and a host of great activities, there will once again be plenty to keep children and adults amused and entertained, so don’t forget to put the date in your diary.

Drum roll please, as the Surrey Army Cadets and Band will open proceedings with a grand march around the park. The procession will resonate with images of the Peace Parade that took place through the same park nearly 100 years ago in celebration of the end of WWI. It will give modern women and men the chance to march proudly in memory of past residents who helped to steer the country through WW1, as well as those who campaigned tirelessly to achieve the vote over a century ago. Partygoers are invited to make Votes for Women sashes and join the parade.

In fine tune, the opening parade will also be supported by the sublime sounds of the Military Wives Choir on the Eagle Radio Main Stage.

Bringing more great music to the stage, Blitz Band and sassy trio the Vintage Vixens will no doubt get crowds up and on their feet dancing.

Resounding from the Culture Zone, the music of the Guildford Barbershop Harmony Club and the Rock Choir are two choral treats set to delight anyone who enjoys the pitch perfection of a singing group.

If dancing to the excellent live music doesn’t help burn off the calories gained from the vast selection of irresistible food traders, crowds can head to the Freedom Leisure Sports Zone to play vintage games, or seek out the archery club and have a go with a bow. There will also be plenty of live dance to watch and participate in, curated by Dance Woking, including vintage 1920s to 1950s dance workshops from the Ragroof Players.

From 6.30pm, movie buffs can relax in front of the New Victoria Theatre Big Screens which will bring the fun of an outdoor cinema to the park with a family film, soon to be announced.

Riette Thomas, Celebrate Woking Project Manager, said: “We are proud to have such a superb family-friendly event in our Celebrate Woking cultural calendar, and even more delighted that we offer most of the activities of the day totally for free.

“Thousands of people in Woking and beyond now put the day into their diaries each year as an event to look forward to. It is unrivalled in terms of the quality and variety of entertainment that is on offer. This year we are showing our ancestors that we still know how to throw a great party, nearly 100 years on from the Peace Party that brought the community together in celebration after the Great War.”

The fun-filled, family-friendly event takes place between 12noon and 9pm in Woking Park. For more information about the event as it is announced, visit or join the Facebook event.
