This brand new musical combines Jane Austen’s romantic novel with the lush music of American composer Lawrence Rush, who was recently award the prestigious Richard Rodgers Award in America for the music from the show. Set in the extravagant Regency period, the show retains Jane Austen’s pointed wry humour and varied characterizations, whilst encasing the key dramatic moments in delightful songs, some gorgeously romantic, others comedic and joyous.

The Director and inspiration behind this production is, Tasha Bennett said that she came across the award winning music and discovered that the writer, Lawrence Rush, was trying to get the full musical produced. Cyber-stalking him down in America, she cheekily suggested that Woking would be the ideal place and the award winning WAOS the best company he could choose to put on the first full staging of the musical. “Amazingly, he agreed and now we – especially our vastly experienced Musical Director, Paul Moylan - are working closely with Lawrence – to bring the score to life. Lawrence will be coming over from his home in the States to see the show – so no pressure there!”

This beloved story focuses on the Bennet family’s attempts to find good husbands for their five daughters. The main actor in this is Mrs Bennet, played by Sam Moylan-Heydt who opens the show with the fast passed comedy number “Wedding Bells” and continues as the frantic mother until she eventually marries off three of her daughters. The long suffering Mr Bennet is played by Brian Higgs who with his sardonic quips brings both comedy and drama to the role.

The main characters however are the brooding and aloof Mr Darcy played by Tim Beasley and the intelligent and forthright Elizabeth Bennet, played by Victoria Percival. Their scenes together really convey how their feelings for each other change from loathing to love. The realisation of their love is beautifully borne in the romantic duet, “All I See”.

The show has a large talented cast and numerous characters that are interwoven with lavish period costumes and ballroom scenes to make this a spectacular production. It is understood that Lawrence Rush will be coming over from his home in the States to see the very first run of his show. He will not be disappointed.
