The Fighting Begins in Maybury guided heritage walk by Iain Wakeford
The Narrator escapes from Horsell Common and makes his way home to Maybury Hill where on the Saturday evening, when the Martians emerge from their cylinder, the heat-ray hits his house and destroys nearby buildings. This walk will look at Wells’ own house in Maybury Road, before going up to Maybury Hill where the Narrator in the story lived, taking in other places that Wells destroys on the Saturday Night in ‘The War of the Worlds’.
Location: Meet at 7pm in Horsell Common car park by Monument Bridge. This is near the new Muslim Burial Ground Peace Garden which you may want to visit before the walk.
