Woking Food and Drink Festival crowned Surrey’s Food and Drink Hero 2018!

18 September 2018

The Woking Food and Drink Festival team were elated to pick up the award for Surrey’s Food and Drink Hero 2018 at the Surrey Life Food and Drink Awards on Thursday 13 September.

For the fourth year running, the team attended the glittering event, held at G:Live in Guildford, which featured the toast of Surrey’s food and drink scene, including chefs, restaurants, pubs, cafes, producers, event organisers and businesses.

Of the 16 annual awards up for grabs, the Surrey Food and Drink Hero award is the special judges’ award which celebrates the best of the shortlisted finalists, rewarding those venues or products which excel in many areas.

The decision to crown Woking Food and Drink Festival, Surrey’s Food and Drink Hero 2018, was made by a respected panel of judges comprising experts from Surrey’s tourism, marketing and events, media, higher education, food and agriculture industries.

Woking Food and Drink Festival’s Project Manager, Riëtte Thomas, said: "The festival is proud to be a finalist for the fourth consecutive year, and we’re absolutely thrilled to bits to win this year’s judges’ choice award!

“We feel privileged to be leading the way when it comes to showcasing the best producers, traders, chefs and restaurants in Surrey and promoting the county as a place to visit.

“Once again, I'd like to thank everyone who voted for us and those who help us to deliver the annual festival. Special thanks must be extended to our sponsors, Woking Shopping, Tante Marie Culinary Academy and Magimix, as well as #WeAreWoking who supported us; without whom we would not be able to host such a successful event.”

Speaking about the team’s latest success, Cllr Colin Kemp, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Culture and Community Development, said: "Yet again the Woking Food and Drink Festival has delivered everything it set out to achieve and more. As well as bringing record visitor numbers to the town centre, this event must also be celebrated for the synergies it creates between local businesses, community groups and organisations.

“I'd also like to extend my congratulations to one of Woking’s retail stars, Boz’s Fruit and Veg, which won Best Independent Food and Drink Retailer 2018."
