Harry Saves the Night by Harry Ramnell

It was a hot summer’s night and the time was creeping close to midnight. Harry, aged 8, lay in his bed quietly trying to get to sleep, but after trying for a while and not succeeding he decided to look out of his bedroom window. All was calm in the street below, nothing to see except for the neighbourhood cats on their night time prowl.

Ding, ding, ding the clock struck twelve. The house in Church road, Byfleet was still and peaceful. Harry crept back into bed. Then all of a sudden a loud whirling, clicking and beeping noise broke the silence. All of the lights in the house shone bright as everything electrical switched on at once.

Harry rushed down stairs to see what was going on, bubbling with excitement and curiosity – but also feeling a little scared.

He crept quietly through the lounge. As he entered the kitchen he felt so scared that he could have screamed, but managed not to. There standing in the kitchen was a tall, skinny figure with ferocious looking blue teeth, beady red eyes, smooth pale skin and a long lemon shaped head. Harry could see a glass alien-shaped suit that appeared to have rocket boosters at the foot of the suit and a small screen with a joystick-like controller in the head of the suit.

The alien bowed its tall lemon head and to Harry’s surprise said “Hi” in a deep bellowing voice.

Harry, stunned by the sight in front of him, wondered what the strange creature wanted. He decided he had to be brave and replied with a whispered hello. (After all the alien wouldn’t have said hi if he was evil, would he?)
