Magna Carta in Surrey - Celebrating 800 years of the Free World

2015 is the 800th year of the sealing of the Magna Carta on the Runnymede Meadows in Surrey.

In commemoration and celebration of this significant point in history, events and activities are taking place across the Runnymede area throughout 2015.

Magna Carta and the Loss of Liberties in Victorian Art, 1 –19 June
The Royal Holloway Picture Gallery will be open to the public for a unique tour of some of our most dramatic paintings to give you a fascinating insight on how the Victorians used art to campaign for freedom and liberty. 

Magna Carta in Flowers, 12 – 16 June
Come to the College Chapel and Windsor Building to enjoy a beautiful display of floral art created by the Surrey Area of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies, exploring the themes of peace and justice.

The Great Charter Festival, Sunday 14 June, 10am-6pm
Celebrate 800 years of Magna Carta at Royal Holloway’s campus with a free, action-packed family festival to celebrate liberty. TheGreat Charter Festival gives you the chance to join in with the celebrations and get involved with hands-on activities and performances, sample food and drink or try your hand at arts and crafts, as well as find out more about Magna Carta and what it means today.
